"Of all the gem artists in the world, Nala Saraswati is the best... He made my (yellow sapphire) Shiva ring. I had very detailed specifications but he did it." - Pt. Sanjay Rath (Achyutananda Parampara Guru)
Oocha Mani is owned and operated by Nala Saraswati and his wife, Suravi Saraswati. Together they are a part of the 500 year old Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) tradition of Śrī Achyutānanda Das of Kaliñga (Orissa) through their Jyotish guru, Pt. Sanjay Rath.
Nala has devoted his life to the study of Vedic spiritual traditions with a particular focus on Jyotish, gemstone upāyas (remedies), and the art of metal working. With over twenty-two years of experience studying Jyotish and working as a professional jeweler, he is uniquely qualified to create astrological and therapeutic jewelry as taught in the traditions of Jyotish and Ayurveda. He has taught courses on Jyotish and Vedic spiritual traditions as a guest lecturer at the Ayurvedic department of SCU (Southern California University of Health Sciences) as well as in independent online courses.
Both Nala and Suravi are initiated into the Śrī Vidyā and Kaulācāra traditions and are devoted sādhakas (spiritual practitioners). Outside of managing Oocha Mani, Suravi also conducts private mentorships and teaches courses on the foundations of sādhanā (spiritual practice) with a particular focus on pūjā (ritual worship) within Tantric Shaktism, a part of the goddess traditions originating in India.
They are students within the Jaimini Scholar Program, Parāśara Jyotiṣa Course, and the Śiva Mahāpurāṇa course. They were also students in the Mantra Śāstra Program offered through the Devaguru Bṛhaspati Center. Their teachers include the renowned Vedic astrologers Pt. Sanjay Rath, Sarbani Rath, and Visti Larsen.
